This is a very long overdue post. I’m not going to apologize for offending people, because frankly speaking, I’m fed up of this insanity.
Around 3 years ago, I was asked to make a Thorin plushie. I didn’t know anything about The Hobbit and had never heard of Richard Armitage. That was the beginning of my ArmiPlushie journey.
Although I’m not a fan of Mr Armitage, because of my plushie making, I’ve been involved with his fandom for the past 3 years or so & I have “met” many wonderful women who have become really good friends of mine.
However, I regularly receive messages, emails, DMs etc from “well wishers” who condemn me and my plushies.
This is just an example of the type of crap I have to deal with on a regular basis from the looney fringe. To be honest, these sort of messages don’t bother me in the least. For the most part I ignore them. If I am bored or have nothing else to do with my time, I might reply with a lot of sarcasm.
Apparently, since I make plushies of him, I should be treating him like a God.
Yea, that’s not gonna happen. I don’t follow him on twitter, FB, whatever. And the few tweets of his that I see on my TL don’t endear him to me at all.
About a year ago, I started a twitter account for my little Plushie Richard. The looney fringe decided to share their opinions about that too.
Yes, there are loons in every fandom. However, of all the fandoms I make plushies for, the Armitage Army is the only one who has members who seem to have no problem with sending nasty, rude and insensitive messages/emails/tweets etc to other people without thinking how it might affect the other person. This form of “Armitage Protection Mode” is ridiculous. He is a grown man who is perfectly capable of defending himself if he chooses to. And if you do want to defend him, there’s no reason to be rude and nasty.
With yesterday’s whole twitter fest, I spent time today deleting messages & mails from outraged well wishers because Plushie Richie dared to tweet that people who didn’t like Mr Armitage’s retweet had the right to disagree & voice their opinions. Eventually I asked a bunch of the loons if a politician had tweeted the same thing, would they be so supportive. I’m still waiting for their reply. ;D
It sucks that the 95% of the Fandom who are some of the sanest, loveliest, encouraging, generous, most supportive people have to suffer because of the 5% of the loons who have nothing better to do with their time than be bullies.
There are enough problems in this world. Let’s just be nice to each other..
